Sugaring is a 100% natural method of hair removal. The sugar paste is non-crystallizing and water soluble. It is made from a combination of sugar, citric acid, purified distilled water, and Acacia. As opposed to waxing, sugar is warmed to body temperature so there is no risk of burning. Furthermore sugar is applied in a continuous molding motion in the opposite direction of hair growth, lubricating the entire follicle and then removed in the hair’s natural direction of growth for a more polished pull. This will result in less irritation on the skin. It is very important to keep hair length from an 1/8” to a 1/4“ for a less painful application. No strips or sticks are used in the art of sugaring.
For larger areas, such as leg or arm waxing, we exclusively use soft wax. For smaller areas like underarms or the bikini area, we use a combination of hard and soft wax. Our belief is that a combination of both gives the best, fastest and most efficient results. Sometimes because of different hair types and lengths, we might use more of one over the other kind. We ask our clients to respect our professional opinion and skills in which we were trained, to be able to do the best job possible for each individual. Please take under consideration, that just because you might have had an unpleasant experience with either hard or soft wax, it’s usually not the kind of wax itself, but it’s the quality and skills of the technician that can either give great or less than desired results.
Hair should be at least 1/4″ to be successfully waxed. A rice grain or eyelash for visual. Usually about 2-3 weeks of growth post shaving.
Hair grows in 3 different stages. Anagen, Catagen and Telogen, Anagen is the active growth phase, in which new hair is produced. In this phase, activity is greater in the hair bulb making this the best phase to remove hair in. Doing so consecutively, will result in faster permanency in the reduction of hair growth. The Catagen stage is the transition stage in which the hair begins to detach itself from the bulb. Telogen is the final stage of hair growth also known as the resting stage. The hair bulb is no longer active, and the hair is ready to fall out. Removing the hair in these 2 phrases will result in hair growing back at a faster rate.
Hair will come back thinner, and in some cases more sparse due to the weakening of the follicle.
Ingrown hairs may occur if the hair isn’t strong enough to penetrate the surface, resulting in hair curling up beneath the skin. To help avoid this, it‘s recommended to exfoliate 2-3 times/wk to remove any layers of dead skin, keeping the skin supple and encouraging the hair to break the surface.
Results vary.
After waxing, bumps/pustules can occur due to trauma to the sebaceous gland.
The trauma of hair removal sends the skin into a reactionary stage causing the follicle to become overstimulated, thus creating the bump or pustule.
This normally only occurs after the first and/or second waxing experience.
Post care with our antiseptic cream (Finipil) or aloe Vera will help reduce any bumps/irritation
The frequency of bikini waxes depends on your hair growth cycle and personal preference. On average, most people get a bikini wax every 4-6 weeks.
Using a numbing solution 10-15 minutes prior to service (available for purchase), and/or taking ibuprofen 20-30 mins before service. Avoid caffeine, sun exposure and any exfoliation 24-48 hours prior to service. Most importantly stay consistent with your waxing. Every 4-6 weeks.
You can most definitely get waxed while on your period, just make sure to have a fresh tampon in before service.
We usually recommend not trimming, but if you must, be mindful of how much you’re trimming. Longer hair is preferable over hair that is too short. We can always trim for you in service if necessary.
If you are a minor (under 18 years of age), you must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or your parent/guardian must sign our consent waiver in order to receive any services. Minimum age for a Brazilian wax is 16 with parent/guardian consent.
